Sri Lanka’s Killing Fields
Microsite for Channel 4
Yesterday we launched possibly one of the most important sites Realise have worked on in our 15+ year history.
In June 2011 Channel 4 broadcast a forensic investigation into the final weeks of the quarter-century long civil war between the government of Sri Lanka and the secessionist rebels, the Tamil Tigers.
The graphic programme generated fierce debate. C4 commissioned Realise to create a dedicated microsite for the programme to help sustain that discussion, but also create a destination that could be shared among international policy makers to help continue to raise awareness of the atrocities.
Realise designed and built the site in under a month. We received praise from the client, not just for the work but also ‘for [our] understanding of the sensitivities of the subject matter’.
As Jon Snow, the presenter of the documentary says on the site: “Once or twice in a reporting lifetime, a journalist is allowed by events to participate in a project that can affect history”. We’re pleased that in some very small way we were given the opportunity to be involved.
